THE End of it All

Please read with me Galatians 5:13-25 PAGE 1348

Galatians 5:18

If you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law.

Romans 10:4

Christ is the end of the law, that every one who has faith may be righteous.

INTRODUCTION: Under the law ( u`po nomon ), instead of " under the flesh " as one might expect. Galatians 3:2-6

Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you experience so many things in vain? -- If it really is in vain. Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? Thus Abraham "believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness."

  1. SEEING LIFE AS GOD VIEWS IT.
    1. Mankind was created for greatness but chose their own existence and the visible world.
    2. Genesis 6:3

Then Yahweh said, "My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for he is flesh, but his days shall be a hundred and twenty years."

    3. Life was made temporary because we were flesh .
    4. This is a mortal (or) physical life ONLY.
    5. Genesis 7:21

All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died.

      D. This was a rejection of life lived beyond the self .

      Romans 1:24

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

    6. Simply stated man had been made for the Spirit of God and chose to be his own master and thereby, independent of God who is life. A creature of this world … FLESH.

  2. GOD CREATED US FOR HIS GLORY.
    1. Mankind (became) devoid of the spiritual life through the Fall. A mere caricature of what we were to be.
    2. Yet, in Christ we saw our lost glory.
    3. 2 Corinthians 4:6

It is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ .

    4. The Messiah was the new man who lived to his God.
    5. Life was originally to be lived beyond the flesh.
    6. Matthew 4:4

"It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’"

    7. He went on to declare: Matthew 4:7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, and `You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'"
    8. The climax is: Luke 4:8 "It is written, `You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'"
    9. Christ lived to the glory of the invisible God.
    10. John 8:29 "He who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him."

    Romans 8:3

God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

  3. THE GOAL OF GOD IN THE LAW AND GRACE.
    1. The whole of the Law is to love God.
      1. He seeks us to center in him.
        1. The Law orders us to not lie, steal or be immoral.
        2. The true believer does none of these.
        3. The mystery is you can do all of this and not please God. He seeks devotion to him.
      2. All other areas point to him. John 5:39 You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me;

      Matthew 22:40

On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

      Luke 16:16

The law and the prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached,

      Matthew 5:17

Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.

      Luke 22:37

I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me,

    2. Love is the end (goal) of the Law. NO ONE CAN BE RIGHT WITH GOD THROUGH KEEPING RULES.
    3. Romans 3:20

For no human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

    4. The Law creates knowledge of sin, but not affection for God. The Law may actually frustrate the worshipper and cause a gulf between him and his God. Grace which is God extended to us is our only hope. For we remain centered in the flesh if we have obedience- compliance without a transformation of the love of our life.
    5. Luke 10:25 Behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, do to "Teacher, what shall I inherit eternal life?" Jesus said, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"
    6. Luke 10:27

The lawyer answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." Jesus said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."

    7. 1 Corinthians 2:9 But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him,"
    8. This is because the Law is spiritual. We are flesh and our solutions are flesh. By the flesh you cannot please God. We must return to his Spirit and live through his Spirit.
    9. But this present age wars against a heart set on God.

    Gal 5:17 –

Lusts against (epiqumei kata ). This use of sarx as opposed (Like a tug of war) to the Spirit (Holy Spirit) is not evil as we think of it but evil as God sees it. The flesh is simply the physical, which is the created as opposed to the creator. Mankind tends to trust in the temporary and not live by the Spirit or in the Spirit – which is God. epiqumei is the verb, epiqumia , the noun , which does not mean evil desire, but simply to long after with controling urge. ( allhloij antikeitai ) of man’s affections through a devotion to the temporary or its creator. They are lined up in conflict, face to face, a spiritual duel (cf. Christ's temptations). So that you may be kept from doing. ( i`na mh poihte ) Whatever you wish

We are being called to seeing our lives as full in Christ.

    SOLA SCRIPTURA ONLY SCRIPTURE

    SOLA FIDA ONLY FAITH

    SOLA CHRISTO ONLY CHRIST

  4. CHRIST IS LOVE. HE FULFILS THE LAW. WE ARE TO LIVE THROUGH HIM.
    1. To live to Christ is to slay all our idols.
    2. God will sum up all things in him.
    3. 1 John 4:9

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.

    4. We must not and cannot add to him.
    5. 2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature.
    6. Colossians 1:15

He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities -- all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

    7. THEREFORE:
      1. We are to live through him.
      2. This is life beyond the physical and our personal self.
      3. The life for and to Christ alone.
      4. The eternal life that was revealed to us in the incarnation and is in the Son.
      5. Life that is un-aging and unending.
      6. Colossians 3:4

When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

      7. Life through the Spirit, which is Christ.

CONCLUSION:

Romans 8:9

But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Any one who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. … For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
