Behold The Lamb

Let us simply hear from the ancient text:

Revelation 4:10 - 5:12

The twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, "Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created." Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals.

  • In his hands a scroll with seven seals – a covenant

  • Written on both sides

    1. First Seal - Religious Conquest, White Horse

    2. Second Seal - Conflict & War, Red Horse

    3. Third Seal - Famine & Drought, Black Horse

    4. Fourth Seal - Death, Green or Pale Horse

    5. Fifth Seal - Vision of Martyrdom or Martyrs

    6. Sixth Seal - Cosmic Disturbances or Heavenly Signs and the Marking of the 144,000

    7. Seventh Seal - Prelude To The 7 Trumpets of 7 Angels & 7 Bowls

Exodus 32:15-16

Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both sides; on the front and on the back they were written. The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.

Ezekiel 2:7-10

You shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house. "But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you." When I looked, behold, a hand was stretched out to me, and behold, a scroll of a book was in it. Then he spread it before me. And it had writing on the front and on the back, and there were written on it words of lamentation and mourning and woe.

  • The seven seals means it is a God sealed reality – it will be

And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?" No one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.

  • We know that none of us are worthy – but none in Heaven?

  • Those who are over there are still not worthy

Then 0ne of the elders said to me, "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals." Between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

  • Lamb of seven horns – seven eyes – seven spirits of God

Colossians 1:19

In him God in all of his fulness was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things to himself, making peace through his blood on the cross – all things whether on earth or in heaven.

He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. When he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Then they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth." Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"

  • The worship is the prayers of God’s holy people

  • A fresh song

Psalm 40:3

He put a new song [fresh] in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

  • A Lamb

    • The Abrihamic moment

Genesis 22:7-8

Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So, the two of them walked on together.

    • Concept of redemption – substitution

Exodus 13:10

You shall therefore keep this statute at its appointed time from year to year. "When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you, you shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your animals that are males shall be the Lord's. Every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. Every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. "

    • This is the prophetic image of the Messiah

Jeremiah 11:18 -19

The LORD made it known to me and I knew; then you showed me their deeds. But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more."

    • This is the great revelation of God

Isaiah 53:7

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.

    • The One who came

      • To whom all lambs of Israel pointed

      • He who could not be redeemed

      • Coming eternally as he promised Abraham

John 1:29-30

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.'"

  • This is his eternal nature, his eternal covenant

Revelation 13:8 REB

All whose names are written in the Book of Life of the Lamb, slain since the foundation of the world.

Hebrews 13:20 -21

Now, may the God of peace who, through the blood of an eternal covenant, brought back from the dead that great shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus, make you complete in all goodness to accomplishing his will, creating in your life that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen!
