"The unfolding light"

Text: John 16: 13

John 16:13

When He comes who is the Spirit of truth, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but will tell you only what He hears, and will make know to you the things that are future.

Key to understanding this is:

John 16:14

He will glorify Me, because everything that He makes known to you He will draw from what is mine. All that the Father has is mine and that is why I say 'Everything He makes known to you is drawn from what is mine.'Into:

Ever wonder what it would be like to just walk along with Jesus- and chit chat? Well, that is what John 15 and 16 are. Jesus is walking toward destiny - toward Gethsemane.

With full stomachs and chalky robes they stood in the full moon light of the ancient city. They pressed in about Him

(in spite of the growing fatigue of the late hour and the heavy diner discussion)in an attempt to hear every word.

I. The para,klhtoj(

A. Jesus promised to not leave His own comfortless.

John 14:18 "I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you.

B. He promised another. Aide-de camp

1. Amplified Bible "Strengthener"

2. The defender.

3. The one at our side.

4. The new "Emanuel"

C. This is to never be apart from us for:

John 14:17

The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; you know Him, for He dwells with you, and will be in you.

1. With them.

2. They already know Him.

3. The Spirit of truth.

John 4:23

The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.

John 4:24

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

1 John 5:7

And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth.

I am the Way, and the Truth,

and the Life; no one comes to the Father,

except through Me.

II. The Work of para,klhtoj(

A. Unknown but active before Christ;

1 Peter 1:10

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours made careful search and inquiry, inquiring about the person or time that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the subsequent glory.

B.

  • He will convince the world (16:8).
  • 1 Cor. 12:3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus be cursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit.

    • He will create believers (16:9).
    • Romans 8:16 it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Romans 8:16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

      • He will teach Jesus to greater depths (16:12-13).
      • 1 John 2:27 but the anointing which you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that any one should teach you; as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie, just as it has taught you, abide in him.

        • He will guide the believer (16:13).
        • Romans 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

Luke 4:1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit.

          • He is the Word of God in the church (16:13).
          • Acts 15:28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us

            • He prophesies the future (16:13).

            • He opens Christ to the believer (16:14).
            • John 15:26 But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me;

1 Cor. 2:16 For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

              • He glorifies Christ (16:14).
                • He opens the Godhead (16:15).
                • 1 Cor. 2:10 God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

                  • He is God in the church.
                  • Romans 8:27 And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

                    III. The Hour of para,klhtoj:

                    we began in a garden

                    live in bondage

                    Knew fear and failure

                    Void of the Spirit.

                    But now.

                    Galatians 4:3

So with us; while we were immature, we were enslaved to the elemental spirits of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

                    1 Corinthians 6:20

                    Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own;

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

                    "The unfolding light"

                    Text: Romans 1:16

I am not ashamed of the gospel:

                    it is God's power of salvation to every believer, originally the Jew first but also the Greek. In it God's righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith;

for it is written, "The one who is righteous through faith - shall live.

The earliest writings of Paul are just 17 years after Christ's death. In this letter he brings to the fulness a theology most simply stated in Galatians. Paul has found the heart of God's goal for man 'in Christ' as foretold in---

                    Habakkuk 2:4

Look at the proud! Their spirit is not right in them,

but the righteous live by their faith.

Paul always paraphrases: as we now read.

                    I. The Conviction.

                    A. "I am unashamed"

                    B. Even in Rome.

                    evpaiscu,nomai ashamed

                    (1) as denoting a sense of guilt and remorse be ashamed

                    Romans 6:21

But then what return did you get from the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death.

                    (2) as denoting fear of embarrassment to one's expectations

                    (3) as denoting reluctance through fear of humiliation

                    Mark 8:38

Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

                    II. The Cause.

                    A. The power

(dunamij qeou the dynamite of God at work. God's power

                    B. Ephesians 1:19

                    and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power in us who believe, according to the working of his great might which he accomplished in Christ when he raised him from the dead and made him sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come;

                    C. The Gospel.

                    1. Romans 1:3

                    the gospel concerning his Son,

                    2. 1 Corinthians 1:17

Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

                    3. Christ the crucified.

Ioudaiwi te prwton kai ~EllhniTo the Jew first-also to the Greek B. Jesus had taught this

                    (Joh 4:22; 10:16; Lu 24:47; Ac 1:8).

                    Romans 2:9

There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality.

                    III. The Condition.

                    A. The gospel content.

                    gar en autwi For therein

                    B. The revealed truth.

dikaiosunh qeou Subjective genitive a God kind of righteousness

It is a revelation from God, this God kind of righteousness, that man unaided could never have conceived or still less attained. In these words we have Paul's statement in his own way of the theme of the Epistle, the content of the gospel as Paul understands it.

                    Every word:

                    swthrian (salvation),

                    euaggelion (gospel),

                    apokaluptetai(is revealed),

                    dikaiosunh qeou (God's righteousness)

                    pistij (faith)

                    pisteuonti (believing)

By "righteousness" we shall see that Paul means both "justification" and "sanctification." It is important to get a clear idea of Paul's use of dikaiosunh here for it controls the thought throughout the Epistle. Jesus set up a higher standard of righteousness in the Sermon on the Mount than the Scribes and Pharisees taught and practiced (Mt 5:20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. and proves it in various items. Here Paul claims that in the gospel, taught by Jesus and by himself there is revealed a God kind of righteousness with two ideas in it (the righteousness that God has and that he bestows).

                    III. The Moral Operation

                    A. READ: ROMANS 9: 30 - 10: 4

                    B. From faith to faith.

                    evk pi,stewj eivj pi,stin

BY MEANS OF FAITH ....... FOR THE PURPOSE OF FAITH.

James 2:19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe -- and shudder.

Rom. 10:10 Man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved.

                    Romans 5:9

Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by His blood, will we be saved through Him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved in His life.
