First Church of the Nazarene Pastor Henecke's Sermon and Devotional Outlines
| Sermon Outlines |
The Woodland Street Pulpit Gary Allen Henecke DD Lent March 12, 2006 P.M. John 14:22 – 15:11 Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, "Lord, in what manner will you reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?" Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my teachings; my Father will love him, and we will come to them and make him our dwelling. Anyone who does not love me will not heed my words. My word is not my own, the Father who sent me gives what you hear. I have spoken these things to you while still dwelling among you; but the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace is what I leave with you; my own peace I bequeath to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not allow your hearts to be frightened or upset. You heard me tell you, I am going away, and I am coming to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice, for I am going to the Father and he is greater than I. I have told this in advance, so that when it occurs, you may believe. I shall not talk to you much longer, for the prince of this world comes, who has nothing in me. So that the world may know that I love the Father – I will do as he ordains. Get up! Let us depart from here! I am the real vine, and my Father is the farmer. Every branch in me that is unfruitful he removes; every branch that is fruitful he prunes so that it may be abundantly fruitful. Now, you are cleansed through the word, which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, as I in indwell you. Just as no branch is capable of yielding fruit unless it lives in the vine, you cannot unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Anyone who abides in me, as I dwell in him, is abundantly fruitful. Cut off from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not abide in me withers, and is removed as a branch; these branches are collected and thrown on the fire and burned. If you dwell in me, and allow my teachings to live in you – you may request whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you. This is how my Father is glorified: you are to be abundantly fruitful and demonstrate that you are my disciples. As the Father has loved me, I have loved you. Now live in my love. If you observe my commandments, you will live in my love, just as I have observed my Father's commands and dwell in his love. These things I have spoken to you that my joy may be in you, so that your joy may be full."
Luke 22:15 Jesus said to them, "With deep desire I have desired evpiqumi,a| evpequ, mhsa to eat this Passover lamb with you before I suffer."John 13:1 On the Eve of the feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end. Luke 22:24 A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
John 14:3 I will come again and will receive you unto myself, so that where I am you may be also.
John 14:9-10 Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father?" Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? I am not the source of the words that I speak; it is the Father who dwells in me doing his works. John 14:21 Anyone who receives my commands and keeps them, he it is who loves me: and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
Peace is what I leave with you; my own peace I bequeath to you. I do not give to you as the world gives….As the Father has loved me, I have loved you. Now live in my love. If you observe my commandments, you will live in my love, just as I have observed my Father's commands and dwell in his love. These things I have spoken to you that my joy may be in you, so that your joy may be full
John 17:22-23 The glory, which you gave me, I have given to them, so that they may be one just as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them as you have loved me.
